US construction aggregate output falls in first quarter of 2017

The estimated U.S. output of construction aggregate produced and shipped for consumption in the first quarter of 2017 was 426 million metric tons, a 3 percent decrease compared with the same period in 2016, reports the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The estimated production-for-consumption of construction aggregate in the first quarter of 2017 also decreased in five of the nine geographic divisions compared with that sold or used in the first quarter of 2016, USGS adds. The leading five states, in descending order of production-for-consumption, include Texas, Florida, California, Georgia and North Carolina. Those states’ combined total production-for-consumption was 136 million metrics tons.

The estimated U.S. output of crushed stone produced and shipped for consumption in the first quarter of 2017 was 261 million metric tons, a slight decrease compared to the same time period in 2016.

The estimated production-for-consumption of crushed stone in the first quarter of 2017 decreased in five of the nine geographic divisions compared with that sold or used in the first quarter of 2017, USGS reports. The five leading states, in descending order of production-for-consumption, were Texas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

Finally, the estimated U.S. output of construction sand and gravel produced and shipped for consumption in the first quarter of 2017 was 165 million metric tons, a 4 percent decrease compared with the first quarter of 2016.

The estimated production-for-consumption of construction sand and gravel in the first quarter of 2017 decreased from that of the first quarter of 2016 in six of the nine geographic divisions. According to USGS, the five leading states, in descending order of production-for-consumption, were Texas, California, Arizona, Washington and Colorado.
